How to Play
- Tap the screen, click the mouse or press Space. Your folded paper plane starts its flight.
- Every tap gives the plane a small lift. Between taps, it slowly drifts downward.
- Tall cloud towers and bamboo kite poles slide in from the right, each with an open gap.
- Steer the plane through the gap. Each gap you clear adds one point.
- Touching a tower, a pole or the grass below ends the flight.
Rules
The plane always flies forward on its own, so your only job is height. Gravity pulls it down at a gentle, steady rate, and each tap replaces its current speed with a fixed upward push. The top of the sky is safe: the plane simply bumps against it and carries on.
The first tower appears a few seconds after you start, which gives you time to find a rhythm. Gaps begin wide and shrink a little as your score grows, and the world scrolls a touch faster too, but the openings never become smaller than a comfortable size. Two gaps in a row are never placed so far apart in height that they cannot be reached.
The collision area of the plane is smaller than its drawing, so a wingtip that seems to brush a cloud is usually fine.
Tips & Strategy
- Tap in a steady beat. Short, regular taps keep the plane level. Panic tapping sends it rocketing into the top half of a tower.
- Fly at the bottom of each gap. A tap lifts you faster than gravity drops you, so it is easier to rise into a gap than to fall into one. Stay low and tap up at the last moment.
- Look at the next gap, not the plane. As soon as you pass one tower, move your eyes to the following opening and start adjusting early.
- Let big drops happen. When the next gap is far below, stop tapping and allow a long glide. Tap once just before the gap so you enter level.
- Keep your thumb resting on the glass. A thumb already touching the screen reacts faster than one that has to travel.
Game Modes
Tap Flyer is a single-player endless game. There are no levels: the run lasts as long as you keep the plane in the air. Two kinds of obstacles take turns at random. Puffy cloud towers hang from the sky and rise from the ground, while striped bamboo poles with a little kite on top look different but work the same way. In dark mode the sky turns to a starry night.
Every flight uses a new random layout, so memorising the course is not possible. Reading each gap as it comes is the real skill here.
Play with Friends
Turn a single phone into a friendly contest by passing it round a group. Each person gets one flight, and the highest score wins the round. For a fun twist, try a “no-look challenge” where the others count gaps aloud while the pilot keeps a steady beat. The best score stays on the device as a record for everyone to chase.
Tap Flyer FAQ
How do I make the plane go up?
Tap anywhere on the game, click with a mouse, or press Space or the up arrow on a keyboard. Each tap is one small lift.
Is there a way to pause?
Yes. Press P or Escape, or switch to another tab or app, and the flight freezes. Tap the game again to carry on.
Why do the gaps get smaller?
To keep long flights exciting, each point narrows the gaps slightly and adds a little speed. Both changes stop at a fair limit, so the game never becomes impossible.
Can I hit the top of the screen?
Yes, the sky above is safe. The plane just stops rising at the edge, so only the towers, the poles and the ground can end your flight.
What does a continue do?
If a continue is offered after a crash, it clears the obstacles in view and lets you start again from the middle of the sky with the same score. It works once per flight.
