Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-09-30

This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed when you use friendplay.in ("FriendPlay", "we", "us"). FriendPlay is run by the FriendPlay team from India. We built the site so that you can play without giving us any personal information at all.

The short version

  • There are no accounts, no sign-up and no passwords.
  • We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or location to play.
  • Your settings, best scores and daily-challenge streaks are stored only in your own browser (localStorage).
  • Online rooms share a temporary display name, your moves and preset emoji reactions with the other players in that room. Nothing from a room is saved on our side.
  • We use privacy-friendly analytics and, once approved, Google advertising to keep the site free. These may use cookies, as explained below.

Information stored on your device

FriendPlay uses your browser's localStorage to remember things that make the games nicer to use: whether sound is muted, your preferred theme (light or dark), the names you typed for pass-and-play, difficulty choices, best scores and daily streaks. This information never leaves your device and we cannot see it. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for friendplay.in. A small per-tab identifier is kept in sessionStorage so that, if you refresh the page during an online game, you rejoin the same seat. It is deleted when you close the tab.

The site also installs a service worker so games you have opened can work offline. It stores copies of our own pages, scripts and images in your browser's cache. It does not store personal information.

Online rooms

When you create or join an online room, your browser connects to a real-time messaging service operated by Supabase, Inc. on our behalf. The following travels through it to the other people in the same room: the display name you choose (maximum 12 characters, filtered for offensive words), a random identifier for your browser tab, your game moves, and any of the eight preset emoji reactions you send. There is no free-text chat. We do not create a database record of rooms, names or moves; messages are relayed and then discarded. Rooms close automatically after 30 minutes without activity. Like any internet service, Supabase processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver messages and protect the service; see the Supabase privacy policy.

Analytics

We may use Google Analytics 4 and Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand, in aggregate, which games are popular and whether pages load quickly. Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies and does not track individuals across sites. Google Analytics may set cookies to count visits and sessions; we record only anonymous game events such as "a game started", "a room was created" or "a mode was chosen". We never send your display name or any game content to analytics. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics storage is denied by default until you give consent through the consent message.

Advertising

FriendPlay is free because it shows ads. We use Google AdSense for display ads around (never on top of) the games, and Google's H5 Games Ads for occasional ads between rounds and for optional "watch an ad to…" rewards. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show ads and measure their performance, and — where you allow it — to personalise ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can learn more in How Google uses information from sites that use its services, manage personalisation at Google Ad Settings, and see the list of partners in Google's consent message. Rewards are never money or anything of monetary value.

Visitors in the EEA, the UK, Switzerland and certain US states are shown a consent message from a Google-certified consent management platform, where you can accept, reject or customise the use of cookies for advertising and analytics. You can change your choice at any time from the privacy link in that message.

Audience

FriendPlay is a general-audience website. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, there is no child data for us to hold. If you are a parent and believe a child has shared personal information through a display name, contact us and we will help.

Legal bases and your rights (GDPR / UK GDPR)

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on your consent for advertising and analytics cookies, and on our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website for strictly necessary processing (such as relaying online room messages you choose to send). You have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of personal data, to object, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. Since we do not store personal data about you, most requests can be satisfied by clearing your browser storage and updating your consent choice. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

India — Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023

FriendPlay processes minimal digital personal data, only for the purposes described above. If you have a question or grievance about how your data is handled, contact our Grievance Officer, the FriendPlay team, at hello@friendplay.in. We aim to respond within 7 days and to resolve grievances within 30 days.

Retention

Local data stays on your device until you clear it. Online room messages are not retained by us. Analytics data is kept in aggregate for up to 14 months. Advertising data is retained by Google according to its own policies.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the site grows; the "last updated" date above will change when we do. Questions? Write to hello@friendplay.in.
