How to Play
- Choose a deck. Family suits kids, cousins and grandparents. Friends is for teenagers and adults but stays just as clean.
- The first player taps Spin the wheel. The pointer stops on the person who takes the next turn.
- That player picks Truth, Dare or Surprise me. A card appears for the whole group to read.
- Answer the question honestly or perform the dare. Then tap Done to collect your point, or Skip if you would rather not.
- The player who just finished spins for the next person. When everyone has had their turns, the highest score wins.
Rules
A Truth or Dare card is worth 1 point when you tap Done. Surprise me gives a quick timed challenge, such as naming five Indian rivers in fifteen seconds, and is worth 2 points because you cannot see it coming.
Every player has two skips for the whole game. A skip gives no point, but there is no other penalty and nobody has to explain why. Once your skips are used up, the Skip button turns grey.
The wheel is fair. In each round it only stops on players who have not had a turn yet, and it never picks the same person twice in a row. Small groups of up to four play four rounds, groups of five to eight play three, and bigger groups play two. A progress bar shows how far through the game you are.
Cards never repeat until the whole pile has been used. If players finish level on points, they share the win.
Tips & Strategy
- Save your skips for the end. Two skips have to last the whole game, so using one on the very first card leaves you with less choice later.
- Surprise me is the comeback move. The challenge cards are short and score double, so a player who is behind can catch up in a single turn.
- Perform for the room, not just the phone. Dares like silly voices and mime are funnier when you stand where everyone can see you. The point is the same, but the laughter is better.
- Keep truths short and honest. A one-line answer keeps the game moving. If a question feels too personal, skip it. That is exactly what the button is for.
- Let the youngest player read the card aloud. In family games this keeps little ones involved even when it is not their turn, and it is good reading practice too.
Game Modes
Play with Friend puts the whole group around one phone, tablet or laptop. Nothing is secret, so there is no need to hide the screen. Just hold it up so everyone can read the card, and hand it to whoever's name is on the wheel.
Play Online lets each person join from their own device. Everybody watches the same wheel and reads the same card at the same moment, which works well for video calls with family in another city.
Both modes offer the Family and Friends decks.
Play with Friends Online
Choose Play Online, create a room and share the invite link. Friends who open it join your lobby, and the host starts the game once at least two people are in. Only the player whose turn it is can choose Truth, Dare or Surprise me and tap Done or Skip, while everyone else sees the card and watches. There is no chat box and no way to message strangers, so the room stays private to the people you invited.
Truth or Dare FAQ
Are the cards safe for children?
Yes. Every card was written for mixed-age groups. There is nothing about romance, looks, weight, money, religion or politics. No dare asks you to eat or drink anything, contact anyone outside the room, post online, touch another player or do anything risky. Dares are things like silly voices, acting and tongue twisters.
What is the difference between the two decks?
The Family deck uses simple questions and playful dares for younger players. The Friends deck has questions about school, work, habits and memories that teenagers and adults enjoy, but it is just as clean.
Can I skip a card?
Yes, any card, for any reason. Each player gets two skips per game. You simply miss that point.
How many people can play?
From two to twelve. The wheel shrinks its slices to fit, and the scoreboard shows every player at once.
How long does a game take?
Usually ten to twenty minutes, depending on the group size and how dramatic your dares get.
